Long-dé
Long-dé (Tib. klong sDe — “Space series”) is the second of the three series of Dzogchen.
Key Points
- The three Dzogchen series. Dzogchen is traditionally divided into three:
- Sem-dé (sems sde) — the Mind series. The one developed in Roaring Silence; the Four Naljors are its ngöndro.
- Long-dé (klong sde) — the Space series. Ch.13 Glossary definition: “The Series of Space, one of the three series of Dzogchen.”
- Me-ngag-dé (man ngag sde) — the Series of Implicit Instruction (named for the first time in the Ch.13 Glossary).
- Ch.2’s sole mention. The gom-tag (meditation strap, three cloth bands in blue/red/white) is named as “used in the practice of Dzogchen Long-dé.” This is the first time the book distinguishes Long-dé from Sem-dé; no elaboration of content yet.
- Gom-tag detail. The Ch.2 gomchenma wears “an embroidered gom-tag across her chest — parallel bands of swirling clouds in blue, red, and white.” The strap is a Long-dé practice-support. Its presence in her costume signals her practice spans beyond Sem-dé.
- Yogic colors. Blue, red, and white are “the yogic colors” — they correspond across several Dzogchen and Vajrayana practice contexts (ngakpa/ngakma ordination robes, trikaya symbolism, element associations). The gom-tag is one instance.
Why Ch.2 Bothers to Surface It
The book’s structural spine is Sem-dé (via the Four Naljors). But the Roaring Silence method does not claim Sem-dé is all of Dzogchen; it is one of three doors. The gom-tag reference is a small, deliberate signal: the gomchenma practices Long-dé too, the tradition is larger than Sem-dé alone, and the reader should register that Sem-dé is a series, not the series.
What Long-dé Is (Beyond the Book’s Scope, Flagged)
In Nyingma Dzogchen literature broadly, Long-dé is associated with the posture-based practices that use physical supports (including the gom-tag meditation strap) to stabilize the practitioner in longs-sku (the Space dimension) while working with tiglé and specific yogic positions. Roaring Silence does not teach Long-dé and this page stops there; the Ch.13 Glossary confirms the series but does not elaborate the content — “The Series of Space” is the full extent of the gloss.
The Three Series Finalized
With Ch.13 named, all three Dzogchen series are now present in the wiki: Sem-dé (the book’s primary scope), Long-dé, and Me-ngag-dé (newly added). Long-dé remains a placeholder that prevents the Sem-dé page from implying Sem-dé = Dzogchen and that anchors the gom-tag reference in Ch.2.
