Public Atlas Handoff
Created: 2026-05-28
This folder is a Markdown-only public draft of the Shinzen Practice Atlas. It
is separate from the internal wiki/ compiler layer.
Current State
- 81 public-facing Markdown pages exist, plus this handoff README.
- The first
ATLAS - Editorial Plan.mdexecution pass is complete: frontmatter now hastier: pillar | practice | boundary; the former routing-heavy homepage moved tomap.md;index.mdis a short human front door; ten pillar scaffold pages andteacher-and-lineage.mdnow stand up the new altitude architecture; and a bounded mechanical sweep removed the repeated source-posture/source-trail sections, boilerplate disclaimer sentence, and most rigid template headings. The same session also completed a first Phase 2 rewrite of the ten pillar pages into readable spine chapters. - The second
ATLAS - Editorial Plan.mdexecution pass is complete: Phase 4 added path-chapter up-links across the practice pages and rewrote the remaining high-friction meta openings; Phase 5 consolidated the old overview pages and teacher/lineage cluster into redirect stubs plusteacher-and-lineage.md; Phase 6 read the ten path chapters front to back and fixed navigation duplicates. The active page set is now 81 public Markdown pages: 10 pillars, 47 practice pages, and 24 boundary/reference pages including legacy redirect stubs. - The first pass created the page set and basic public shape.
- The second pass moved the pages toward a middle ground: more useful than a brochure, much lighter than the internal agent-facing wiki.
- The first next-30 expansion phase added the routing and method-architecture layer: Basic Mindfulness, Five Ways, Sensory Grid, Way of Tranquility, Practice Cycles, Turn Toward/Turn Away, Effort Regulation, Focus Coverage, Zooming, and Calming/Clarifying.
- The second next-30 expansion phase added the equanimity, inner-life, and transformation-mechanisms layer: Equanimity Versus Suppression, Equanimity Training Ladder, Inner Sensory System, Recycle the Reaction, Suffering Distortion Cycle, Condition-Independent Happiness, and Deconstruction and Reconstruction.
- The third next-30 expansion phase added the safety and accountability layer: Guidance, Scope, and Accountability, Practice Method Safety, Intensity and Embodiment Safety, DPDR and the Pit of the Void, Altered Phenomena and Dissolution Safety, Operational Enlightenment, and Mastery Without Guru Inflation.
- The fourth next-30 expansion phase completed the source, service, and advanced phenomenology layer: Source, Service, and Bodhicitta; Source, Science, and Analogy; Expansion and Contraction; Spaciousness; Dissolution and Bhanga; and Self-Inquiry and Turn Back.
- The original next-30 expansion queue in
../wiki/_public_atlas_next_30_pages.mdis now complete. - The first post-next-30 consolidation pass polished the six spine pages with compact source trails, concrete practice examples, route-quality checks, working label translations, and more specific safety-first language.
- The first reader-route pass tested routes from the atlas home page for noisy thoughts, pain/intensity, equanimity versus shutdown, void/no-self distress, practice-effect reactions, and behavior/teacher-claim concerns. It tightened the home-page problem table and “Next Reading” links on high-value route and safety pages.
- The first high-value technique/boundary source-trail pass added compact source trails, concrete examples, and page-specific safety language to Noting, Do Nothing, Focus on Rest, Nurture Positive, Feel/Image/Talk, Flow/Gone, Practice Method Safety, Intensity and Embodiment Safety, Altered Phenomena and Dissolution Safety, DPDR and the Pit of the Void, Completion Versus Bypass and Intensity, and Guidance, Scope, and Accountability.
- The transformation and advanced-phenomenology source-trail pass added compact source anchors to the main transformation, no-self, Source, service, science-analogy, dissolution, Space, Expansion-Contraction, and self-inquiry pages, then added a glossary route-check table for term-first readers.
- A second reader-route pass sharpened mixed-method routing and separated Source/service questions from science, neuroscience, physics, energy, and analogy questions.
- A load-bearing delta review in
../wiki/_public_atlas_loadbearing_delta_review_2026-05-31.mdnow identifies the full Total Happiness aim structure as the strongest next compiler-to-atlas inclusion if another content pass is chosen. - A broader human-facing compiler-delta coverage plan now lives at
../wiki/_public_atlas_human_delta_coverage_plan.md. It treats the Total Happiness aim-structure inclusion as Phase 1, then continues through teaching as service, Auto Output, discrimination/unification, applied life boundaries, and other deferred deltas when route tests justify them. - Phase 1 is complete:
total-happiness-aim-structure.mdnow carries the three jobs, four quadrants, five applications, ordinary/extraordinary happiness, periodic-table caution, and improve-supports-transcend rule. The exact Phase 1 implementation contract remains recorded at../wiki/_public_atlas_total_happiness_aim_structure_plan.md. - Phase 2 is complete:
shinzens-teaching-method.mdnow carries the teaching-as-service ladder, including subtle presence, coherent description, explicit instruction, professional teaching, advanced competence, path discovery, supporting teachers, teacher-selection relationship fit, track-record caution, and accountability boundaries. - Phase 3 is complete:
auto-output-practice.mdnow frames Auto Move, Auto Speak/Chant, Auto Think, and Auto Everything as detected self-organization under CCE, with task-safety, consent, truth-check, vocal/physical, and conduct-authority boundaries. - Phase 4 is complete:
sensory-clarity.mdnow carries the discrimination/unification answer as an analysis-and-unity decision surface, with routes from the public index, glossary, and deconstruction/reconstruction page. - Phase 5 is complete:
applied-life-boundaries.mdnow routes illness, sleep, sexuality, birth/parenting, caffeine or substances, lucid dreams, public suffering, and retreat aftereffects through ordinary care, scope, safety, and narrow practice handles before technique enthusiasm. - Phase 6 is complete:
surface-to-source-path-map.mdnow gives a non-status-ladder route from ordinary self/world experience through sensory untangling, Flow, Gone, Source/Zero language, and return to service, with the Ten Ox-Herding Pictures included as a bounded parallel map. - Phase 7 is complete: no new page was created. Term-first readers now get
light routes for mindfulness definitions and mysticism as concentration
through
glossary.md,mindfulness-as-cce.md,lineage-translation.md, and the public index, with explicit boundaries against public mindfulness flattening, comparative-religion overclaim, unusual-state authority, and conduct certification. - A post-completion reader-route polish pass strengthened
choosing-a-practice-route.mdwith bounded-experiment containers and stay/tune/switch/stop checks, and routed method-choice readers from the public index throughpractice-method-safety.md. - A second post-completion reader-route polish pass strengthened

- There is no static-site framework yet.
Editorial Target
Aim for a curated atlas: part field guide, part reference work, part hypertext book.
The atlas should feel like a map room:
- clear enough for humans to browse;
- precise enough to preserve Shinzen’s practice distinctions;
- source-calibrated enough not to overclaim;
- safety-aware enough not to turn practice language into therapy, authority, or metaphysics.
Avoid both extremes:
- do not copy the internal wiki’s dense AI-oriented memory pages;
- do not reduce the atlas to short explanatory stubs.
Working Method
Use the internal compiler as the back office for judgment, not as the public voice. For each substantial edit, begin with the reader’s job, then mine the relevant internal owner page for practice handles, source posture, safety limits, contradictions, and high-value links. Bring forward the insight, not the machinery.
Strong atlas pages should make the internal work feel effortless to the reader: enough structure to choose the next move, enough source calibration to trust the distinctions, and enough examples to make the language usable.
Voice and Register
Write for serious practitioners and careful readers. The voice should be precise, warm, plainspoken, source-calibrated, and practice-facing.
Avoid:
- generic wellness copy;
- guru-transmission language;
- academic distance that drains the practice handles;
- internal compiler language such as routing contracts, model deltas, claim IDs, or agent-facing instructions.
Prefer:
- concrete practice problems before abstract names;
- Shinzen-specific terms when they carry real discrimination;
- short claim-tier language such as “Shinzen says,” “compiled synthesis,” “editorial inference,” “speculative extension,” and “not established here”;
- page-specific safety cautions over repeated boilerplate;
- links that answer a reader’s likely next question.
Public Page Shape
The new atlas shape is tiered:
- Pillars are the ten path chapters. They carry the living through-line, then point down into practice and boundary pages.
- Practice pages are standalone lookup pages. They should open with the
live move, stay operational, include concrete examples or decision tables
when useful, carry only page-specific safety, and begin
Next Readingwith their path chapter. - Boundary/reference pages are where rigor concentrates: claim tiers, safety, guidance scope, source/citation posture, glossary entries, and full lookup.
Do not reintroduce the old fixed skeleton, repeated generic disclaimer
paragraph, or per-page Source Posture / Source Trail sections. Use tables
when they create a decision surface, not as decoration.
Next Best Passes
Current status:
- New atlas editorial plan: complete through Phase 6 front-to-back coherence as of 2026-06-04. Future work should prioritize source/citation policy, rights/quotation posture, site-readiness, or fresh reader testing rather than additional structural consolidation by default.
- Expansion: complete at 69 public content pages after the deliberate Total Happiness aim-structure, Auto Output, Applied Life Boundaries, and Surface to Source Path Map additions. Priority 7 was handled as a light route clarification, not a new page.
- Spine/source-trail polish: first pass complete for the six spine pages as of 2026-05-31.
- Foundation-page trust pass: first skill-primitives pass complete as of 2026-06-01 for Concentration Power and Equanimity. The impermanence primitives, route-architecture tuning, physical-senses/tranquility, and inner-system/completion-signs clusters are now also strengthened, along with the equanimity support and suppression-boundary cluster, the Basic Mindfulness/main-route architecture cluster, and the Sensory Grid. Next high-return candidates include any remaining foundation page whose route or source posture still feels thin, or an adept-reader challenge route if a stronger route failure appears.
- Reader-route testing: second pass complete as of 2026-05-31 for mixed-method and Source/science scenarios; method-choice, behavior/service, no-self/personality, complete-experience, safety/scope, and Source/service example-route polish passes completed as of 2026-06-01. Source/science proof-boundary, See/Hear/Feel label-ambiguity, and dissolution/bhanga immediate-route polish passes were also completed as of 2026-06-01. First-minute method examples for Noting, Do Nothing, Focus on Rest, and Nurture Positive were added as a tenth post-completion pass. The insight/purification catharsis-versus-completion route was added as an eleventh pass. The turn-toward/turn-away direct-contact route was added as a twelfth pass. The reaction-recycling route for state rebound, no-self fear, relational alienation, void flatness, and retreat aftershock was added as a thirteenth pass. The daily-life practice route for micro-hits, challenge sequences, retroactive practice, tasks, and conversation was added as a fourteenth pass. The human-goodness route for positive affect, love, repair, behavior, and service without bypass was added as a fifteenth pass. The claim-tier sorting route for proof, science, Source, authority, and source-posture questions was added as a sixteenth pass. The state-to-action route for functioning from samadhi-like depth without bypassing task safety was added as a seventeenth pass. The calming-versus-clarifying route for tranquility, dry insight, fogginess, “nothing is happening,” and method-safety boundaries was added as an eighteenth pass. The inner emotion/FIT route for anxiety, self-talk, shame, worry, vague inner pressure, and “something is off” was added as a nineteenth pass. Continue with more scenarios when a route feels ambiguous.
- Adept-reader challenge pass: first two passes complete as of
2026-06-01 for
mastery-without-guru-inflation.mdandsource-zero-and-speculation.md, strengthening the routes for teacher, attainment, transmission, Source-service, and direct-experience proof claims without turning genuine depth into total authority. - Technique/boundary source-trail pass: first high-value pass complete as of 2026-05-31.
- Transformation/advanced source-trail pass: first high-value pass complete as of 2026-05-31.
- Glossary route testing: first term-first route pass complete as of 2026-05-31.
- Load-bearing delta review: complete as of 2026-05-31. The broader human-facing compiler-delta coverage plan is complete as of 2026-06-01: priorities 1-6 became public artifacts or sections, and priority 7 became light glossary/lineage routing.
- Next best move: decide source/citation/rights posture and site-readiness if the atlas is moving toward publication. If substance is tested again, run fresh reader-route scenarios against the new ten-part path rather than reopening the old expansion queue.
- Human reading paths: make
index.mdandhow-to-read-this-site.mdwork as a deliberate first public experience for serious beginners, advanced practitioners, teachers, cross-tradition readers, and safety/claim-tier readers. - Foundation page trust pass: strengthen high-return pages that still lack compact source trails, examples, or page-specific safety.
- Adept-reader challenge pass: test no-self, maps, bhanga, Source, enlightenment, teacher authority, behavior, and service routes against advanced-reader objections.
- Scenario example pass: add concrete examples only where they change practice discrimination.
- Source/citation/rights pass: decide quote policy, source citation style, and public source posture before internet publication.
- Site-readiness pass: decide static-site framework, metadata, navigation, and public launch posture after substance and source policy are stable.

Important Boundaries
- Do not edit
raw/for this work. - Do not turn the internal
wiki/into the public atlas. - Do not add a static-site framework until Markdown content is worth publishing.
- Do not publish long quotations or raw transcript text until rights and quotation policy are settled.
- Do not hide safety, source tier, behavior, consent, teacher accountability, or clinical/medical scope boundaries.
