Source, Zero, and the Honest Edge
Source and Zero name the edge where experience cancels — where it thins, vanishes, and returns carrying an afterglow of peace, love, and fullness. This edge can be the most meaningful thing in a person’s life and still not make them an authority on reality. Both halves of that sentence are the teaching.
The honest boundary is itself the teaching. At Zero there is no one home to witness Source as an object. Whatever gets reported is the return — the afterglow, a conditioned sensory event like any other, arriving as peace, love, or meaning. The afterglow is not fake; it is simply the only side that can be known. No hidden observer stayed behind to touch the unconditioned and carry word of it back.
This is the most useful way to hold Source language: total intimacy, zero overclaim. Let the opening matter. Let it change practice. Let it soften identity and feed service. Do not turn it into proof of physics, metaphysics, teacher authority, moral purity, clinical safety, or a finished path.
Shinzen’s system can speak in visionary language: Source, Zero, the One, polarity, Expansion-Contraction, Gone, the spring of the void. It can also say, cleanly, that direct contemplative experience does not by itself settle what lies behind sensory experience. That restraint is not a weakness. It is how the system keeps the deepest material from becoming possession.
Speculative: Shinzen’s mathematics, neuroscience, physics, entropy, ultrasound, and science analogies are teaching bridges and research hopes unless independently evidenced. They may orient imagination. They do not prove ontology or safety.
The Source edge also needs warmth. The void can feel springy, alive, and freeing; it can also turn cold, flat, derealized, and meaningless. If the world goes paper-thin and functioning drops, do not go shopping for a more advanced interpretation. Route to embodiment, warmth, support, and the safety pages.
